Basically, the year-end bonus and vacation allowance are accrued as a separate reservation. The year-end bonus is paid at the end of the year and the vacation allowance in June. Should you choose to have this paid at the same time as your salary, you can indicate this on Mijn Driessen. To do so, go to "Goed werkgeverschap" (Good employment practices) and then "Keuzeregeling" (Choice regulation) Make sure you indicate this choice for all departments and faculties you work for, if you work at multiple locations.
In addition to the vacation allowance and year-end bonus, you also build up a reservation for your vacation days. This reservation is meant to receive your salary during vacation periods. You can have the reservation paid out at any time. The amount of the reservation is 13.79% of your salary over the hours worked. You can always find the amount of the reservation on your most recent pay slip. Payment for the reserved vacation days can be accomplished by submitting a "Nieuwe declaratie" (New declaration). Instead of filling in the hours in the "hours at 100% column”, enter the hours in the ‘Vacation’ column. The total amount of vacation you have accrued to date can be found at the bottom right of the pay slip. 'Vakantiedagen in uren' (Vacation in hours) is what it says here. The number mentioned there is the maximum that can be obtained using the previously described process.
In Mijn Driessen > 'Mijn administratie' (my administration) you can find the most important documents, including your payslips and annual statements. You will also receive an e-mail every 4 weeks when your payslip is available and an annual e-mail when your annual statement is ready.
If you have other work in addition to your work at the University of Twente, you may only be able to apply the wage tax credit with one employer. It is important that you apply the wage tax credit with the employer where you earn the highest income, so that you can take full advantage of the highest wage tax credit. If this income varies from period to period, you can choose to adjust the payroll tax credit weekly, starting every Monday.
To adjust the payroll tax credit, go to Mijn Driessen and navigate to "Mijn profiel" (My Profile). Then click on "Loonheffingskorting" (Wage tax credit). Please note that the effective date must always be a Monday.
If you are scheduled to work but are unable to do so due to illness, you can report sick via My Driessen. It is also important to report your illness to your contact person within the University of Twente so that they are aware of your situation. It is your responsibility to provide a substitute if required by your supervisor.
Be sure to report your recovery in the same way when you are better again.
Your contract runs throughout your period of study. The moment you are no longer enrolled as a student at UT, you are required to notify us. The moment you deregister as a student, your contract will also automatically end. UT will monitor this on a monthly basis as well.
As a student at the University of Twente, you will be registered with Driessen as a student on-call worker. This means that you will work at the University of Twente through Driessen based on an on-call agreement. Your employment contract already contains or will include a section on reference days and hours, which essentially represents your availability. It doesn't imply that you will work on fixed days and times but rather indicates the days and times when you are available to perform tasks. Please note that no strict obligations arise from this. In practice, the specific days and hours when you will actually work will be determined in consultation with your supervisor.
Mentioning these reference days and hours has been a legal requirement since August 1, 2022.
Below is an overview of the reference days and hours, assuming you are available for, for example, 8 to 16 hours per week. In the example, the preference is for work in the late afternoon and evening, but preferably not on Friday and Sunday.
According to the Collective Labor Agreement for Universities (CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten), employees are eligible for an additional compensation for irregular hours under certain circumstances. Make sure you declare your hours at the corresponding percentages in Mijn Driessen. Below is an overview of when this compensation applies and the respective rates:
You are entitled to a 40% allowance on top of your regular salary in the following situations:
You are entitled to a 75% allowance on top of your regular salary in the following situations:
You are only allowed to apply the wage tax credit with one employer. Therefore, it is essential to know whether the wage tax credit is being applied or not. You can find this information in the My Driessen Portal, under My Profile (Mijn Profiel) and then My Data (Mijn gegevens). The bottom of the screen shows whether the payroll tax credit is applied or not.
When an employee is scheduled to work but cannot due to illness, the student should report their sickness through the Mijn Driessen portal. It is crucial that the student also notifies the contact person at the University of Twente of the sick report so that they are informed of the situation. Additionally, reports of recovery should also be submitted through Mijn Driessen.
The responsibility for sickness lies with the employer (Driessen), and Driessen also manages and provides guidance for sickness (sickness absence management).
The contract you have received applies to all work as an on-call student at the UT for the duration of your studies. As soon as you have received a contract, you can be employed in any of the activities, without having to re-register in the portal. You will not receive a new contract or confirmation for this, but when you declare your hours, the option to declare on the different departments will be opened. If you do not see an option to declare in the portal, please contact your supervisor so they can inform us.
